From the first glass in the afternoon sun to the last dance under the stars.

2.30pm
The gates open. Make your way across the lawn — the first glass is already poured.

3.00pm
Outdoors on the lawn, weather permitting. Indoors if England has other ideas.

3.45pm
Canapés, photographs, long shadows across the grass.

5.30pm
Take your seat at the long tables. Three courses, good wine, better company.

7.30pm
Glasses raised. They have promised to be brief. We shall see.

9.00pm
And then everyone else's. The band plays until the sun is long gone.

10.30pm
Something warm and a little indulgent, to keep the dancers going.

12.00am
Taxis and the return coach wait at the front door. Go gently.

An evening in the country, dressed for the city. We'd love you to go all out.

Dinner jacket in black or midnight, white dress shirt, black bow tie. Velvet is very welcome after dark.
Floor-length, or an elegant cocktail length. Colour is encouraged — think claret, bottle green, midnight, ochre.
White, ivory and cream. And anything you can't dance in.
The ceremony is on grass, so block heels will thank you. June evenings in Surrey cool quickly; bring a layer.

At the foot of Box Hill. Stay for Sunday and walk it off.
Straightforward and good value, a short hop from the station coach.
